CONNECTED - A Board Game About Europe, Knowledge, and Teamwork
Connected is a trivia-based board game that transforms learning into an active and social experience. Created during the Game Change training course, the game invites young people to travel across Europe, answer questions, discover cultures, and reconnect through play. Instead of endless scrolling, players take an active pause: they move across a map of Europe, explore history, fun facts, culture, and geography, and work together to meet their teammate on the same tile.
About the Game
Everyone needs breaks, but breaks can also become opportunities for learning, communication, and fun. Connected was designed as a game that combines travel, European knowledge, teamwork, and friendly competition. Players move across a Europe-themed board by answering questions correctly and choosing strategies together. The game encourages young people to discover countries, traditions, historical moments, and surprising facts while strengthening communication and collaboration.

The Idea Behind the Game
The concept of Connected is simple and meaningful: players are separated on a map of Europe and can only reconnect through knowledge, communication, and strategy. The game turns distance into a journey of questions. Through categories such as Culture, History, Fun Facts, and Geography, players explore Europe while moving closer to each other. The result is a playful educational tool that promotes curiosity, intercultural learning, and teamwork.
Objective of the Game
The goal is for two partners to start from opposite sides of the map and move toward each other by answering questions correctly. The first team whose two players land on the same tile wins the game. In the 2-player version, the game becomes a duel, where players race to reach the other player's starting point first.

Board and Visual Concept
The board presents a travel-themed map of Europe with connected routes, colored nodes, and decorative elements like passports, tickets, and travel symbols. It visually supports the main idea of movement, discovery, and connection across European countries. The colored nodes connect directly to the question categories, making the board both functional and thematic.
Question Categories
The game includes four main trivia categories:
-
Culture
-
History
-
Fun Facts
-
Geography
After the first round, players no longer choose freely; instead, the category depends on the color of the node where they are standing:
-
Yellow node = Culture
-
Orange node = History
-
Blue node = Fun Facts
-
Green node = Geography
The uploaded files show many examples of questions from each category, such as:
-
historical questions about European countries and events,
-
cultural questions about music, literature, art, and traditions,
-
fun facts about unusual customs and surprising facts from across Europe.
How to Play
Setup
-
Players form teams of 2 whenever possible.
-
Partners place their pieces on opposite sides of the board.
-
In case of an odd number of players, one player becomes the Moderator, reading cards, keeping time, and judging answers.
-
In the first round, players may choose any category freely.
Movement
Players move by answering correctly:
-
Correct answer alone = move 2 spaces
-
Correct answer with help from your partner = move 1 space
-
Wrong answer = stay where you are
Standard movement takes place on the blue roads of the board.
Special Fields
Dish Challenge
When a player lands on a black circled field, they may choose a special challenge instead of a normal trivia question. In this mode:
-
one player becomes the Describer
-
the other becomes the Guesser
-
the describer must explain a dish without saying its name
-
the team has 30 seconds
-
if correct, the guesser moves 2 steps
Competitive Mode
Before starting, players can choose between:
-
Friendly Mode – pure trivia, no sabotage
-
Competitive Mode – includes Playful Cards and Red Roads shortcuts
In competitive mode, landing on a (+) field allows players to draw a Playful Card, which can create advantages or disadvantages during the game.
Playful Cards
The Playful Cards add a more dynamic and surprising dimension to the game. The uploaded deck includes actions such as:
-
move forward 3 steps,
-
pick another question,
-
change places with another player,
-
stay a turn,
-
destroy a road,
-
build a road,
-
freeze a team for one round.
These cards make the competitive version more interactive and strategic, while still keeping the game fun and accessible.
